Aurora began with a name that had been with me for years.
I cannot point to one particular moment that made the name meaningful to me—it was simply always there, waiting to become part of something. That moment finally came through my love of dragons. My 3D-printed dragons, together with the pet dragon that has accompanied me in Second Life, inspired me to bring the name Aurora into the virtual world.
What began as a name soon became something much larger.
Aurora grew into an identity for the many different things I create, build, and operate throughout OpenSim. It is not one product, one region, or one type of experience. It is the connection between virtual worlds and communities, innovative systems, dependable streaming services, original designs, residential and commercial spaces, venues, entertainment, and the countless ideas still waiting to be brought to life.
Each part of Aurora has its own purpose and personality. Some branches focus on the technology that helps virtual worlds operate. Others create places where people can live, shop, gather, dance, explore, or simply enjoy being part of a community. Together, they form one growing creative vision built around imagination, experience, and possibility.
Everything under the Aurora name is shaped through hands-on involvement in virtual worlds. The systems are created in response to real needs. The regions and spaces are developed with the people who will use them in mind. The designs, services, and experiences all begin with an idea and evolve through patience, experimentation, and a willingness to keep improving.
Aurora is also the continuation of a creative journey that began long before the name itself entered the virtual world. Years of creating, building, learning, and operating within Second Life and OpenSim have all contributed to what Aurora is becoming today. Every earlier project, every challenge, and every new skill has helped shape its direction.
Aurora will continue to grow as new ideas take form. Its individual branches may serve different purposes, but they all share the same heart: a desire to create something useful, beautiful, welcoming, and memorable within the virtual worlds we call home.
What started with a name—and a few dragons—has become a world of its own.
Welcome to Aurora.
